'Safe Taxi' Program Implemented in Old Town Puerto Vallarta

February 23, 2012

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - In order to provide greater security to Puerto Vallarta residents and tourists who use taxi service in the Colonia Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, the Old Town Business Owners and Residents Association is launching the Taxi Seguro (Safe Taxi) program.

In addition to providing patrons with safe transportation recommendations, participating establishments will have a log in which data will be collected each time a customer leaves their business and boards a taxi. This 'taxi log' will act as a backup in case of an incident.

In this respect, the Business Association's president, Alberto Cortez, said, "What we are working towards is prevention, so that tourists feel more secure. By utilizing the forms, it will be easier to make a report to the authorities if there is any sort of problem." He further commented that this program will not be exclusive to tourist but will also be for local people, with the aim of everyone arriving safely at their destinations.

The program will also be useful in providing protection to women traveling alone and to those who over-consume alcoholic beverages, i.e., encouraging them to make use of the 'Safe Taxi' service rather than putting their lives and/or those of others in jeopardy.
