Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Though "¡Viva Mexico!" (The Cry of Independence) will be shouted out at the main plaza on September 15th, "¡Otra orden con todo!" (Another order with everything!) will be the battle cry on September 16th, as Puerto Vallarta hosts the second edition of the Feria del Taco (Taco Fair).
Scheduled to take place at Lazaro Cardenas Park from 4 to 11 pm, this year's Feria del Taco will feature 20 restaurants that specialize in preparing the national dish, two musical groups, a couple of pre-Hispanic food workshops, and dozens of varieties and styles of this extraordinary event's main attraction... the taco!
To liven up the culinary event, two groups - a Huichol family that will entertain us with their Folkloric interpretations and the Municipal Band of Puerto Vallarta - will each perform a couple of sets. There will also be two workshops on the taco, its history and its culinary and cultural implications, which will be led by Chef Cáliz, an expert on the subject.
FIDETUR Marketing and Public Relations Director, Luis Villaseñor, said that such events are very important because they not only add to the calendar of fun activities our destination offers to visitors, but also involves the local community, which creates a family-friendly atmosphere.
He said that information about the event has already been disseminated to national media and public relations agencies so they can help spread the word about this "Very Mexican" celebration to potential visitors.
Disseminating this information in places like El Bajio, Guadalajara and other Western states from whence Puerto Vallarta is easily accessible is very important, he said. These are the destination's natural markets, and letting potential visitors know that not only will they have a great time here over the long holiday weekend, but they can also enjoy an event dedicated to this emblematic dish, will surely inspire them to make the trip.
"It's very important to showcase what this destination has to offer visitors... not only its beautiful natural settings but also its creative cuisine, like the fish and seafood, carne asada or adobada, and many other varieties of tacos, including prehispanic..." [that will be showcased at the second edition of PV's Feria del Taco], Villaseñor added.
Some of the participants taquerías are: El Coleguita, Marisma Fish Taco, Cuates y Cuetes, De Chile, Mole y Pozole, Happy Burros, Las Adelitas, Tuna Azul, Veggie Table, Mauricios, Pinchi Taco, and Taquizas Chayito Ponce.
According to organizer Edgar Cisneros, of the Stratos Media Company, between locals and tourists, more than 3,000 people are expected to attend this year's event, which would almost double the figure achieved last year.
