Casa de Milagros
Puerto Vallarta Drug and Alcohol Residential Treatment Center

Drug and alcohol addiction is a recognized problem in the Puerto Vallarta area. Abuse of alcohol, prescription and non-prescription pills, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin, crack, marijuana and inhalants not only affects the user, but also destroys homes and relationships, both personal and professional.

Casa de Milagros [House of Miracles] is a non-profit, community-based recovery program designed to help those who have fallen victim to the disease of addiction by placing them in a voluntary long-term residential recovery facility. Deriving its funds from grants, donations, and the residents' rent, this high-quality substance abuse program is available to men, women and teens who may benefit from the support of living with others in recovery.

The program's director has 11 years of experience and is certified in drug and alcohol studies and recovery services. To help keep the program cost-effective, a professional team of medical doctors, psychologists, addiction therapists, psychiatrists is available on an as-needed basis.

Since the program is aimed at helping clients develop the psychological, behavioral and life skills needs for building a satisfying, drug-free lifestyle, the residence is staffed 24 hours a day by clean-and-sober recovering addicts who volunteer to help others in their transition to independent living and ensure adherence to house rules.

MEXICO STREET DRUGS:
Mexico has long been a pipeline for drugs into the United States. But decades of drug trafficking has left at least 1 million Mexicans addicted to heroin, cocaine and other drugs. Addicts trying to quit are filling clinics, while cartels are fighting in northern Mexico over billion-dollar smuggling routes.

When arriving at Casa de Milagros, individual are put on a 72-hour restriction, which means they cannot leave the property. After that point, clients are permitted to come and go as they please - as long as it doesn't interfere with the program schedule or lead to being under the influence of any substance that is not cleared with staff doctors.

The first 30 days of the nine-month program focus on addiction recovery with an emphasis on understanding the addictive process. Each day their time will be spent detoxing under a doctor's close supervision, and on learning how to utilize a variety of strategies to facilitate sobriety, including outside NA and AA meetings and in-house 12-step recovery meetings.

After 30 days of "living clean," residents are expected to look for employment so they can learn how to re-assimilate into society and the workplace. With the money they earn, they will be able to pay for their residency. On-site, live-in staff responsible for the supervision of working residents are on-hand to help them cope with their difficulties at work and provide them with tools for success - including a variety of workshops designed to enhance recovery.

Personal and community involvement is a core resource critical to the success of Casa de Milagros. There are many ways to get involved. For more information about the program, to make a donation, or volunteer your services, please contact CDM@BanderasNews.com.
