Whether you're a proud new Puerto Vallarta home owner, have lived here for years and are thinking about redecorating, or are just shopping for some unique Mexican handcrafts to take back home, you'll find high-quality artesanal works, interior design and home decór items at Banderas Bay Trading Company and The Annex.
There is a touch of old Mexico blended with contemporary Mexican handiwork in these two contemporary design and home decór shops. Owned by Peter and Tari Bowman, both stores specialize in rustic Mexican antiques, some of which are in the religious vane and others that are just plain fun, plus craft items really made in Mexico.
Peter has spent over 40 years in retail. After moving to Puerto Vallarta almost 25 years ago, he began redecorating homes. This is how he started building his fine collection of interior décor items.
"We kept buying and having too many things for projects we were working on and we kept putting them in a warehouse," says Peter, "So, it was either open a warehouse or open a store, so we opened the Annex and haven't looked back."
The Bowmans travel all over Mexico and Central America looking for unusual items. They visit many local fairs, dealers and artisans to fill both of their locations with one-of-a-kind decorative objects - wonderful and amusing things that are very unique as well as functional.
Banderas Bay Trading Company has been open for over three years. The Annex opened its doors in 2006, and features larger items like antique doors and bed frames. Both stores carry a wide variety of custom metal work pieces such as lamps, mirrors of all shapes and sizes, spectacular beds, tables, and table bases for their collection of extraordinary table tops.
And, since everything on display at both stores was either custom designed or hand-selected by Peter, each and every piece has a story behind it, so you can learn a little bit of Mexican history while you're browsing through his collection of really cool items for your home.
