You've clicked on Weekend Beat for the latest Bay of Banderas headlines, I'm William Michael.
| For entertaining video reports covering everything from the hottest places to eat, drink and shop to information about attractions, events, and charitable organizations, be sure to watch Laura Gelezunas twice a month on The Banderas Beat. | | Campaigning: Candidate for the presidency of Puerto Vallara, Antonio Joya Rodriguez has launched the committee of the PVEM. The theme is to save the ecological environment and focus on education and employment. The pre-election-campaign will continue until July fifth, 2009. Most of us may not be able to vote, but... we can cheer the contenders on.
Give A Smile: For over 20 years the International Friendship Club of Puerto Vallarta and the Regional Hospital have helped children born with cleft palate and harelip by providing life-changing surgery. Annually, over forty children benefit from reconstructive surgery, which is followed up by orthodontics and speech therapy. On February 4th, both organizations met with potential surgery families of limited or nonexistent economical resources. The team is creating new faces for the children. Funding is limited so if you wish to contribute please contact the International Friendship Club at (322) 222-5466 or visit their website, ifcpv.com. Click HERE for full story.
Up In Fumes: Homeowners in Los Portales, a family neighborhood, are demanding shutting down gasoline trucks parking in the colonia. The main fear... the trucks are exchanging gasoline and an incident may occur. Concern is over the fumes and possible fire hazard. They are strong around the homes all around the parking area.
Sell No More: Project Beach Zoning of Puerto Vallarta is very serious in canceling 500 permits of the street vendors. The maximum amounts of permits permitted are 796 and on file they have 1176 permits for vendors. The project main purpose is to control the vendor, improve beach entrances and public bathrooms. I like to shop on the beach but... enough is enough.
Eye in the Sky: You have probably noticed the tall metal poles being installed at intersections throughout the city. These will hold video cameras. This new surveillance equipment will enhance security to local residents and visitors. There's a total of 48 cameras and is expected to be in use by the end of March. A new surveillance office is being built to receive the video images and is located at the Public Security Offices in Las Juntas. Click HERE for full story.
Temporary Classroom: During the renovation of the Lion's Club elementary school, kids will be getting their ABC's at the Puerto Vallarta High School until construction is complete. They moved in this week. Many government agencies were involved with this project. They needed to create a safe and clean environment for the children to get their education in peace.
