| Destination:PEACE was born out of an idea to couple volunteer opportunities with the amazing landscape that the Bay of Banderas offers as a vacation destination. During a Destination:PEACE Volunteer Vacation, guests will experience another culture and yoga while making a difference in the lives of others: children, women, families, animals and the environment. | | The newest trend in travel includes volunteer vacations and Destination:PEACE Volunteer Vacations has joined forces with the luxury condo community, Ayia Punta Mita.
Who rescued who? That’s the question that participants ask themselves during a 5 day volunteer vacation with Destination:PEACE. Imagine yourself away from the buzz of the daily grind instead situated in the heart of Punta Mita on the 14th fairway of the Jack Nicklaus golf course. The quiet tranquility of Ayia Punta Mita is an amazing resting place for the volunteer participants after a life changing day working with the non-profit organization, PEACE Mexico, a non-profit 501(c)3 based out of the US.
Destination:PEACE was born out of an idea to couple volunteer opportunities with the amazing landscape that the Bay of Bandera’s offers as a vacation destination. During a Destination:PEACE Volunteer Vacation, guests will experience another culture while making a difference in the lives of others: children, women, families, animals and the environment.
A volunteer will help raise awareness and contribute to the overall love, community and hope to the people and animals affiliated with PEACE Mexico, a non-profit organization currently operating in Punta de Mita. Destination:PEACE gives back a portion of their proceeds to PEACE Mexico in order to further their mission.
Founded in 2005, PEACE Mexico, works hand-in-hand with communities in Mexico to provide holistic education combined with community action programs that enable people to improve their quality of life, as well as, their financial stability. English classes, after-school programs, recycling initiatives, and a free mobile spay/neuter clinic are among the various projects.
"In ancient Greek Ayia means ‘a sacred place.’ I hear from everyone who participates in a Destination:PEACE vacation that the experience of volunteerism is a sacred memory that you carry with you for the rest of your life. Yoga in the morning overlooking the tranquil pools of Ayia Punta Mita, then spending the afternoon getting your hands dirty while helping to build a recycled park for the local school is a combined experience that can only be found through a Destination:PEACE vacation," says Katherine Fisher, Co-Founder of Destination:PEACE.
It’s not all work. Each five-day vacation combines volunteerism with the relaxing practice of yoga, taught by credentialed yoga instructors, spoils you with authentic Mexican cuisine, and enables you to explore the region and experience either cultural or adventure activities. Cultural activities might include salsa dancing or turning clay into masterpieces.
Adventure activities might include hiking, surfing or whale watching. "We believe there is a beautiful balance between the volunteer opportunities and the time to reflect and relax here in Mexico. We want you to enjoy yourself so much that you come back year after year," says Katherine.
The 2010 Destination:Peace Vacation calendar is as follows:
