School of Champions Christmas at the Sheraton: What a Party!
email this pageprint this pageemail usArt Fumerton - PVNN
December 21, 2010

The annual School of Champions Christmas Party was held at the Sheraton Buganvilias Hotel and Resort for the third consecutive year. Over 270 children from both the main campus in Magisterio and the Volcanes Primary School attended the event.

The kids rode to and from the hotel on large, first class tourist busses thanks to Vallarta Adventures who always arranges the transportation. The Sheraton supplied their largest ballroom with large tables with white table clothes and all the amenities including staff to help serve the kids. Don Chonito bakery supplied the huge cake, as usual and Burger King helped with discounted hamburgers and fries. Sr. Fox of Café Roma helped out with soft drinks.

Two gentlemen from Eastern Canada were concerned last year when there were not enough presents for all of the children. So this year they raised enough money to buy a very nice gift for all of the 270 children in attendance and had enough left over to purchase 9 big prizes to be raffled off during the party. The big prizes included two bikes, 6 IPod MP3 Music Players and a mini computer.

The Manager and staff at the Soriana in Pitillal were also extremely helpful and gave us huge discounts in many of the prizes as well as 10% off on everything that we purchased. This meant we were un-budget for the toys and will have money to by the kids school supplies in January.

The smiles on the faces of the children said it all.
We would like to thank our sponsors:

Sheraton Buganvilias Resort and Hotel
Vallarta Adventures
Soriana
Don Chonito Bakery
Café Roma
Perdon y Amistad

We also want to thank all of the volunteers who helped organize the party and those who helped serve the children.

This is the only time during the year that these kids get to have a party away from the dump and really enjoy themselves. The presents are the icing on the cake. They will talk about the party for the entire year and the gifts that they received.

About the Feed the Children Vallarta (formerly Children of the Dump)

Feed the Children was founded in 1998, originally as Desayunos Para Los Niños de Vallarta, a Mexican non profit, tax exempt corporation. Through private donations, the program feeds more than 1,500 children daily in 5 primary schools around the dump, operates nine day care centers and an after-school program for 300 students in grades 3 through 6, teaching them English, math and computing. The goal of the Feed the Children Vallarta is to ensure education through grade nine and to educate the children of Puerto Vallarta in the skills necessary to rise above poverty.
