Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - With record crowds attending, the 7th Annual Altruism Festival at the CasaMagna Marriott Resort on Sunday, May 15, 2011 was an epic event.
With over 20 different charities present, we await the official number of funds raised that evening. This information will be announced within the next few days and I'm quite certain the amount will reflect the great energy and force that was behind this grand event.
The wonderful mix of culture, various entertainment, delicious food and good people energy, made the evening a great success. The various charities put a lot of time and vigor into creating unique ways of presenting and sharing their information.
The restaurant booths were also beautifully decorated including restaurant owners/chefs serving your food. How often will you see that happen in a restaurant?
The food prep behind an event like this is gigantic. They donate their time and food, cooking for hundreds of people and with the hopes of not running out of food. This is quite a task, and what makes it extra special is that these restaurateurs are all working towards the same goal which is giving back to the community.
Meeting the masterminds behind the appetizing creations was a real treat. With so many great restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, this event gives you the opportunity to get a small taste and at the same time feel good knowing that you are supporting local charities.
Now, with so many charities in Puerto Vallarta, how do you decide which one to get involved with? It becomes overwhelming to choose as they are all equally important. Some charities are funded by the government but if you do your research, you'll know that the government doesn't come even close to providing sufficient funds.
You'll also see many fundraisers during our peak season here in Vallarta with all trying to raise funds for a variety of different charities. However, this does not necessarily mean you have to hop on the 'popularity' wagon.
These fund raisers are very well organized and the charities involved are very lucky to have their support. Often, you'll find many charities missing that one important element, which is a voice. Do your research, ask around and make sure the charity you choose is legitimate.
I for one am looking at bringing the DIF (Integrated Family Development) senior's home into the forefront as it seems they are the "forgotten ones."
No matter which charity you choose to support, the important thing here is to "share the wealth." Whether it is through your participation, knowledge or your money, the time is now to get involved.
