Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Vallarta Pride organizing committee has prepared a renewed Gay Pride Festival with new proposals that they're sure you'll love, as in 2017 they are supporting a social cause that is important to the community: prevention of HIV/AIDS through the distribution of the PrEP pill.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a way for people who do not have HIV but who are at substantial risk of getting it to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill. The pill (brand name Truvada) contains two medicines (tenofovir and emtricitabine) that are used in combination with other medicines to treat HIV. For more information about the PrEP pill, visit cdc.gov.
According to CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H., PrEP, when used along with other prevention strategies, has the potential to help at-risk individuals protect themselves and thereby reduce new HIV infections.
Bringing the tools of education and prevention of HIV directly to Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors is the purpose of the SETAC Community Center. You can help SETAC bring this powerful HIV prevention tool to PV by making a donation to Vallarta Pride 2017, which is promoting the GLBT community center's campaign for the distribution of the PrEP pill in the greater Banderas Bay area.
A gofundme account has been set up for those who would like to contribute to Vallarta's 2017 Gay Pride Festival and this worthy cause. Please consider making a donation.
The purpose of the SETAC Community Center, located at Rio Santiago #174 in the El Fluvial neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, is to provide essential services to the community, including physical and mental health treatment, referrals, and education in an atmosphere of safety, free from discrimination.
