Start filling up your 2008 calendars! Two top-notch New York City theatrical performers, husband and wife, will sing Broadway songs to raise funds for the Rehabilitation Clinic of Santa Barbara (Clinica de Rehabilitation Santa Barbara), providing physical therapy on injuries as well as supportive therapy for patients with brain diseases such as Cerebral Palsy.

Dana Zeller-Alexis, who received raves from theater audiences for her role here in Shirley Valentine, and Mark Zeller, Broadway actor and singer who directed her, will perform Broadway a Puerto Vallarta on the first two Mondays and Tuesdays in March (the 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th) at 6:30 pm, at Kathy Von Rohr´s galeria and studio, 32 Manuel M. Diegez. Tickets for $250 pesos (USD $25) will be available for purchase on February 1st. For further information, email dana78st(at)sbcgoal.net.

All kinds of theater productions are opening at Santa Barbara Theater. Denver actress Alex Ryer has returned to Puerto Vallarta for the fifth time to reminisce this time about her musical journey in Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow on Thursdays at 8 pm during January. Alex features the music of Joni Mitchell, Carol King and Kenny Loggins, jazz, blues, and musical theater selections by Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim.

Then on Saturdays through February 3rd, Alex brings a bawdy salute to The Bright, Buxom, Brazen Beauties of Early Broadway - Sophie Tucker, Mae West and Fanny Brice. ¨Songs and humor will be a little naughty,¨ Alex says. After all, Mae West said, ¨Good girls go to heaven but bad girls go everywhere.¨

Broadway entertainer Sol Rose is back with the return of The Phantom at 9 pm on January 8, 15 and 29. The multi-media production (in color) features the Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway score sung by Sol Rose, tenor, Kathy Overly, soprano, and Christopher May on violin.

Sol also will reprise, by popular request, Siempre Sol, on one night, Sunday, February 3rd, at 8 pm. Look for Stop the World in February and March with Sol, Patrice White, Kathy Overly and Christopher May.

During January at 8 pm on Wednesdays, local performers Graciela and Paco Ringness provide a tongue-in-cheek salute to pop-country recording stars Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

The 14-member Quesa Divas perform during February and March with Those Sassy Sixties - A Midlife Romp Through Rock and Roll. For further information about productions at Santa Barbara Theater, call 223-2048.

Hold on to the seats of your chairs at Wise Women in Vallarta on Wednesday, January 23rd, at 10 am, when Len of blu salon appears ¨Unplugged¨ at the International Friendship Club, Libertad and Miramar. He has told me a little bit of the program - and, oh my! Men, you may want to be there, too, as there now is room for you, although this program may go to standing-room only. Make reservations with seminar founder Darla Fowler at darla(at)seminarswithdarla.com.

Celebrate Valentine´s Day, February 14th, at a fashion show coordinated by Los Caprichos de LOLA and a silent auction at Puerta del Cielo (the chapel of Hacienda San Angel) Miramar 363, from 4 - 6 pm to benefit SPCA de PV for the care of animals. Tickets are $350 pesos ($35 USD) with tickets available at Hacienda San Angel (222-2692.)

Also on Thursday, January 17th, at 10:30 am, blessing of the animals will take place on the Feast Day of San Antonio at Puerta del Cielo. This event is free to the public for household pets only. Animals will be blessed by Father Juan Francisco Gradilla Gutierrez.

Listen up, especially you shy men around doctors. A month-long special for men´s health checks with Dr. Lopez-Cuerto is at Cornerstone Hospital. For more information, contact pamela(at)healthcareresourcespv.com or call 044-322-107-7007.

"What´s New in Cardiology?" will be discussed by Dr. Jorge Chavez at 7 pm on January 16th at Cornerstone Hospital. Dr. Chavez also works in New York at the Long Island Jewish Hospital each summer. Make reservations to pamela(at)healthcareresourcespv.com.

We had a memorable Christmas Eve this year. Jewish friends invited some of us to enjoy glorious paella prepared by architect Francisco Marugan and to listen to 15th and 16th century carols from Spain along with Sephardic chants. Add a full moon and fireworks, and it was a perfect evening with friends.

Wasn´t that Christmas Eve day early morning rain, lightening and thunder something? With being awake at 3 am, Cirque du Soleil provided delightful entertainment on the A&E channel.

We all are talking about the cool, if not downright cold-feeling weather. For the first time in three years here, I pulled out a heavy sweatshirt from, of all places, Hawaii. It says, "Island Snow - Hawaii," referring to the snow that sometimes appears on a volcano there.

Happy New Year!
