Becas Vallarta members are at full speed planning three events that will delight you as well as provide the funds to continue the education for three hundred bright young Vallartenses students of great ability and few financial resources.

Classical music lovers are in for an incredible evening with Vallarta’s own musicians: father Mario Blanco on the guitar and daughter Adriana Martinez on the piano.

Mario, entirely self-taught, will embark on one of his first ventures into classical music with his talented daughter alongside. Studying for a Bachelor of Music as a concert pianist with Dr. Anatoli Zatin, while attending classes with various Russian teachers at the University of Colima, daughter Adriana recently soloed to much acclaim with the Institutes’s chamber orchestra.

The 7:00 pm Friday, February 12, 2010 program was planned by Becas members Cecile and Rod Scriban in conjunction with the artists. It will feature both guitar and piano solos as well as a complete presentation of duets. Fabulous selections from composers Antonio Rovira, Juan de Dios Filiberto, Carlos Gardel, Ariel Ramirez, Bach, Mozart, Handel and Ponce will fill the sea scented air of the Patio Los Arcos at Club Regina in the Marina for the evening's Valentine Recital Under the Stars.

Tickets are $200 pesos in advance and $250 pesos at the door. You may reserve your tickets with Cecile Scriban at (322) 223-4606 or celiatsascri(at)hotmail.com or Polly Vicars at 223-1371 or phvicars(at)gmail.com or Ricardo Murrieta at 224-9966 or blm(at)prodigy.net.mx or Mario Blanco at 293-1038 or marioblanco(at)prodigy.net.mx. Don’t miss this extraordinary event!

President Mariel de Fregoso, Linda Wirth and I are also hard at work planning the first ever Becas Brunch and Fashion Show at La Leche on Wednesday, February 17 at 10:30 am. Nacho Cardenas and his son, Chef Alonzo, have planned a very special brunch with national drink, fabulous dessert and yummy meal in between.

Meanwhile Toody Walton, of Colección Bohemia, is lining up gorgeous señorita and gringa models, as well as a very special surprise male model who will be making his debut at this occasion. Her eclectic collection of dresses are artisan - made Mexican designs for all sizes (including plus sizes) For a complete look, Toody will present those fabulous San Miguel shoes and jewelry - both fun and fine.

After the event, Toody will stage a trunk show for those who would like to stay to do a little shopping. She will offer 10% off for credit card purchases and 15% off for cash. Tickets to the event are $250 pesos and must be purchased in advance. For your tickets contact me at the numbers above. Remember the last event at Daiquiri Dicks was sold out one week before the event, so call now!

The piece de resistance, the 2010 Becas Ball at the Patio Los Arcos Club Regina on Thursday, March 11, is also well on its way to becoming another sellout. President Mariel de Fregoso is guiding the plans for the event with all the Becas members helping to make it live up to its name, Fete du Nuít - Festival of the Night with Altruism at its Core.

The festivities will begin at 6:30 pm, when Becas members and Becas scholarship students will welcome you to the event for complimentary cocktails as the ever popular Los Bambinos play and sing for you until 8:00 pm. Then the seated gourmet dinner with red and white wine will be served in the dazzling and uniquely decorated venue by the sea.

Tables for ten will be assembled under the crescent moon and the shining stars around the dance floor that will fill early as patrons trip the light fantastic to the melodious music of Grupo Odisea, the popular group which entertained at the 2009 Becas Ball.

During the evening, exciting and valuable silent auction items from mini-vacations in outstanding venues in Guadalajara, Patzcuaro, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta to objects d'art, dinners in many of our gourmet restaurants and much more will be up for bid. Dancing will go on until half past midnight when tired, but content, we not only will have had a "ball" but have helped insure that three hundred becados will have the wherewithal to stay another year in school.

So don’t delay purchasing your March 11, 2010 Becas Ball tickets! There will only be 40 tables of 10 and more than half have already sold! Tickets are $850 pesos each or $8500 for a table and, of course, must be purchased in advance from me or any other Becas member.

Don’t wait to call or you will miss the event of the season as well as your chance to help change lives through education!
