A Dazzling Night at the Checo Carrillo Concert Benefitting PEACE at Rivera Cuale Gretchen DeWitt - PeaceMexico.org November 26, 2010
| Approximately $45,000 pesos were raised for local non-profit PEACE at the Checo Carrillo benefit concert held at Rivera Cuale on November 21st. | | Puerto Vallarta - There was a full moon and a sparkling array of stars on November 21st, but Checo Carrillo was the brightest star of all on Sunday night.
One hundred guests gathered for drinks at six-thirty at the beautiful Rivera Cuale condominium complex situated on the banks of the Rio Cuale and nestled against the jungled foothills. The outdoor stage was lined with torches, which lit not only the rented stage, but the tall palms bordering the property.
At eight o’clock, after the lively Latin music of keyboard player Rafael Alonso and his accompanist, singer Martha Rochin, Checo took the stage. His voice is rich and full bodied, full of passion and tenderness. Checo sang mostly Mexican ballads, but also included some wonderful rancheros and a few love songs in English. The mostly English-speaking and very thrilled audience gave him a standing ovation.
Checo has just recorded his first CD, Soy el Peor, which is the title of a beautiful Mexican ballad that he sings beautifully. The CDs were ready the day before the concert, and brought by Checo from Guadalajara to be sold at the event.
CDs will be available every Tuesday morning before the PEACE Classic Vallarta Home Tours at Superior Tours Travel in Plaza Romy. Cost of CD is $120 pesos, $20 pesos of which Checo is donating to PEACE for its programs in Vallarta. Contact: checocarrillo(at)yahoo.com.
PEACE would like to thank Rivera Cuale, an award-winning, community and ecologically sensitive development for hosting this successful event. In addition, Rivera Cuale arranged and paid for rental of the stage and chairs as well as providing refreshments.
