Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Taking fashion to new heights at the first Hair Spray Night. Around 400 people were dazzled by the work of 15 local salons. This amazing runway spectacular was a benefit for SETAC and their fight against HIV and AIDS in Puerto Vallarta.
"We were really excited to be here," says Nancy Ritter, a SETAC supporter, "My husband and I just wanted to come see it and check out all the hair styles. There are a lot of wonderful salons participating and to admire all the work that they can do, it's just fabulous."
Hair Spray Night took years to get off the ground. Organizers believe that hairdressers are perfect spokes models for their cause.
"It's a dream come true," says Paco Arjona, SETAC director, "It is something I have really wanted to do and the response from the people has been really good."
Just over $58,000 pesos were raised. SETAC's community center is so much more than a place to get tested for aids, they have Spanish classes, provide milk for mother's with HIV, offer counseling services, supply free condoms and much more. These funds will give their programs a boost.
"This is just the beginning," says Paco, "Next year we plan to have a fantasy hair competition, because all the hairdressers and salons are very excited and they want to continue this show."
