Cafe Bohemio restaurant owner Sol Rose is not only one of Vallarta's zaniest characters, but also a talented chef who's more than willing to sing for his supper.

The Tree House Restaurant and Bar (Miguelito's) owner Lori Lorenzen plans to run a summertime restaurant/bar at Lake Tahoe. She'll also visit her family in California this summer. Lori, who is a former university administrator, soon receives a pension and plans to be back here in October "to really enjoy paradise."

Tree House is up for sale, with a number of business persons looking at its possibilities. It has been a quite popular gathering place, with a number of musical groups performing there. Special events included sitar concerts and special dinners. Popular and likeable Gino returned to California some time ago to lead his own life as a businessman.

The multi-talented performer Sol Rose now is cooking - Meatloaf and Melodies - in a video right HERE on BanderasNews. Sol says, "Singing and cooking are my two passions and to be able to combine them into a show is a dream come true." The famous Bohemio meatloaf is featured, along with the recipe for you, so you can make it at home. Video Diva Laura Gelezunas is the creator and videographer of the show.

A delightful and inspiring program is being developed with teenage boys - the "B-Boys-New Life" - of dancing and exercise by New Life Mexico and DIF (local social services.) They are to be "Youth Ambassadors." Philippa Vernon-Powell, field director, says, "This is encouraging young kids to stay off of the streets and focus their lives. This also is showing that they can break-dance rather than be on the streets with drugs."

Free break-dance lessons to kids also will be offered at a DIF location. We hope to see them dancing around town soon. This program was introduced at the Informe recently where some astounding information and statistics about street children were presented. More of this information over time. For further information, email Philippa at pvp(at)newlifemexico.com.

A benefit dinner for New Life Mexico will be March 12th at Boca Bento, 180 Basilio Badillo. For tickets, call Margaret L'Ecuyer at 222-6804 or 044-322-134-1645.

Evelyne Boren is celebrating 35 years of exhibiting her paintings in Vallarta at Galerie des Artistes, 248 Leona Vicario. Across the street, you don't want to miss Wouter Deruytter's images at Galeria Omar Alonso, 249 Leona Vicario.

Outstanding entrepreneur and educator Vivian Hemphill will discuss, "The End of Poverty," at Wise Wo-men on March 19th at 10 am at the International Friendship Club, Libertad and Miramar. Vivian gives leadership to programs with indigenous women in the Vallarta area.

Well-known Vallarta writer and playwright Karen Blomain (Trick of Light) and photographer, writer and playwright Michael Downend will conduct a workshop in Ireland on Beara Peninsula, West Cork, October 11-18th. A deposit is needed by May 15th. For further information about the retreat, email karenblomain(at)gmail.com.

The stunning performance by Dana and Mark Zeller of Broadway songs continues March 10th and 11th at 6:30 pm at the Cathy Von Rohr studio, to raise funds for Clinica de Rehabilitation Santa Barbara. For tickets and information, call Dana Zeller-Alexis at 223-2697.

Musician/vocalist David Lyons performs March 11th at 8 pm at Santa Barbara Theater.

Katmandu's sitar concert will be March 10th in the garden at Cafe des Artistes at an 8 pm dinner. Tickets are available at the restaurant or call Don and Rhonda at 221-6078.

We went to our wonderful neighbors Al and Barbara Garvey's house warming, displaying their two dance floors for tango dancing and their creative design of their home, to neighbors. The beautiful home, with Vallarta openness, is constructed to blend in the neighborhood of Mexican homes. Mexican neighbors and friends enjoyed their hospitality, as usual. Al designed a beautiful stone waterfall, and Barbara designed the tiles in their home. For Tango information, email alybarbara(at)yahoo.com.

Mercy! After a recent Writer's Group meeting, I passed on a drink at brunch afterwards, for a class of very cold ice water! First of all, a special pre-meeting program accommodated an out-of-town editor who did not show up as scheduled for the recent Writers' Conference.

Well, the person showed up at this special accommodation at 9:15 am - clearly under the influence of something. Then at the Writers Group meeting, a very good out-of-town writer read a violent piece, with several sadistic sexual acts. And I had been at the funny, racy, sometimes raunchy, Kinsey Sicks the night before!

That ice cold water tasted mighty good! If you are interested in attending the Writer's Group meetings, they are at 10:30 am on Saturdays at the International Friendship Club.
