Quixote Illustrations Adorn Mexico City Cathedral

The 'El Quijote. Imagenes y artistas' exhibit, inaugurated Tuesday by the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico and the Mexico City-based Franz Mayer Museum, features illustrations from different Don Quixote editions in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of Cervantes.

When Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti visited sister city Mexico City in 2014, Mexico gifted L.A. with a sculpture. Garcetti officially accepted the gift - a pair of beautifully detailed bronze wings - at an event last week. The piece, from artist Jorge Marin, is called 'Alas de la Ciudad.'

A more than 150-year-old painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe has been returned to La Parroquia de la Santisima Trinidad, the church from which it was stolen in 2010. The canvas was restored by the National Institute of Anthropology and History and returned to the parish.
