Puerto Vallarta is set to see continued improvements to its public schools through Jalisco con Estrella, a state government program focused on upgrading educational infrastructure and providing students with better learning environments.
Francisco Ontiveros Balcázar, director general of the Jalisco State Institute of Physical Educational Infrastructure (Infejal), said 27 schools in Puerto Vallarta will benefit from the initiative. The projects include classroom renovations, improvements to sports facilities, accessibility upgrades, new furniture, and the installation of technology designed to support modern teaching methods.
The program was discussed during the First International Congress on Educational Infrastructure “Al Estilo Jalisco.” Ontiveros explained that Jalisco con Estrella is being implemented throughout all 12 regions of the state, with projects tailored to the needs of individual schools.
Among the program’s key features are Google Classrooms equipped with 40 laptops, Smart TVs, and internet connectivity. These resources are intended to give students and teachers greater access to digital learning tools and expand educational opportunities inside the classroom.
Ontiveros emphasized that improving educational infrastructure involves more than constructing or renovating buildings. Proper supervision, maintenance, and ongoing monitoring are also essential to ensure that the improvements continue serving students and educators effectively.
Several Puerto Vallarta schools have already received major upgrades. At the end of the previous school year, Infejal delivered completed work at the Jardín de Niños Revolución Mexicana in Las Gaviotas and Veintiuno de Marzo Elementary School in Las Juntas.
Together, the projects represented an investment of more than 25 million pesos and directly benefited more than 450 students.
At Jardín de Niños Revolución Mexicana, improvements included a new entrance, terrace-dining area, main courtyard, walkways, and sections of the perimeter fence. Two classroom buildings were renovated, while a shade structure, play equipment, safety surfaces, and solar panels were also added. Remaining work includes flooring, restrooms, and air conditioning.
Another significant investment was made at Salvador M. Lima Elementary School, where more than 17 million pesos were allocated for infrastructure improvements. The project included inclusive restrooms, accessibility ramps, new doors and windows, solar panels, waterproofing, painting, flooring, roof repairs, a cafeteria, storage space, and a sports court.
Estefanía Padilla Martínez, coordinator of Jalisco con Estrella, said work will continue at schools throughout Puerto Vallarta. The state-wide program aims to strengthen education at all levels by combining improved physical spaces with technology that can support students as they prepare for the future.
With 27 local schools included in the initiative, Jalisco con Estrella represents a significant investment in Puerto Vallarta’s educational infrastructure and in creating more supportive environments for the community’s younger generations.
