Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Jalisco Transportation Secretariat (Setran) has authorized a new mobile application developed by the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) that will soon connect passengers with licensed taxis in both Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, marking a significant step forward in the modernization of the state’s taxi service.
Jalisco Transportation Secretary Diego Monraz and Jaime Aguilar Mejía, secretary of the taxi drivers’ union, confirmed that the platform has received state approval. After its recent presentation in Guadalajara, the app will undergo testing in Puerto Vallarta before its official public launch.
Designed as a modern alternative to traditional radio taxi services, the application will allow customers to request licensed taxis directly from their smartphones while offering enhanced security features for both passengers and drivers.
One of the platform’s most distinctive features is its pricing model. Unlike many ride-hailing services, the CTM app will not use dynamic pricing, meaning fares will remain consistent regardless of the time of day, weather conditions, or periods of high demand.
In Puerto Vallarta, taxi fares are currently determined by geographic zones rather than distance traveled. State authorities are reviewing the existing fare structure to reflect the city’s continued growth and determine whether new service zones should be established to better meet transportation needs.
According to officials, the updated fare system is intended to improve service coverage while maintaining competitive pricing. The CTM has also stated that fares offered through the app will be lower than those of other digital transportation platforms.
The organization plans to integrate approximately 1,700 Puerto Vallarta taxis into the new system, creating a broad network of licensed drivers available through the app. The initiative aims to provide residents and visitors with another convenient transportation option while helping local taxi operators strengthen their position in an increasingly digital marketplace.
Monraz said the application represents the next evolution of the traditional radio taxi model by combining established taxi services with modern mobile technology. He added that the platform is expected to improve convenience, increase customer confidence, and help drivers reach more passengers through an easy-to-use digital service.
