Es por Vallarta Program Continues

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The fifth installment of the ‘Es Por Vallarta’ program, an initiative launched by Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña to help put food on the tables of families in need, began on Wednesday and continues through Monday at the 23 Centros de Apoyo Alimentario (Food Support Centers) located throughout the municipality.

Once completed, it will bring the number of despensas (bags filled with non-perishable food staples, basic cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products and other everyday necessities) that have been distributed to 50,000, since the program began on April 8.

Last Friday, The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), through the 41st Military Zone, joined the effort by donating 3 tons of sugar, which has been added to the 10,000 despensas that are being distributed this week.

Adding to the food support program, on Tuesday the Global Gas company donated 3,000 kilos of gas, which the Social Development Directorate will deliver to the Community Dining Rooms that private citizens and non-profit organizations have set up around the city to provide hot food to those who are now unemployed due to the mandatory closing of many local businesses.

Accompanied by the director of Social Development, Víctor Bernal Vargas, Mayor Dávalos Peña took delivery of the gas and thanked the company for demonstrating its commitment and solidarity with the community by adding one more aspect to the ‘Es Por Vallarta’ support program.

“Today I want to thank the Global Gas company, which has been working here in the Banderas Bay region for more than 50 years, for all the support that they are giving us and to the people of Puerto Vallarta,” the municipal president said.

In this context, the mayor personally thanked Global Gas general manager, Miguel Torres Bernal; South Zone manager, Ricardo León López; and Puerto Vallarta branch manager, Eduardo Rubio Ocampo, who were in charge of officially delivering this donation, and were happy to make this valuable contribution.

Dávalos went on to say that this generous donation will go towards supporting the efforts of the benevolent citizens and organizations that are “working down in the trenches every day to improve the lives of the most vulnerable families in Puerto Vallarta,” such as those running the Community Dining Rooms.

“We are going to send these 3,000 kilos of gas to the community kitchens, which benefit those of us who live here, and we [the municipal government] are going to continue supporting them, and, of course, the people who are in most need of our help,” he said.
