Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Bringing world class professional tennis players from all over the globe together, the fourth edition of the Puerto Vallarta Open, recognized as the best ATP Challenger Tour Tournament in the world, will be played from March 6th through 12th at Parque Parota in the city’s Hotel Zone.
At a recent press conference, Francisco Javier Romero, who leads the organizing committee, reported that the main official sponsor of the 4th Puerto Vallarta Open is Puerto Mágico, which will serve as the 2023 tournament’s headquarters, with games played on the outdoor hard courts at Parque Parota, and $130,000 USD in prizes to be distributed among the winners.
Javier Romero indicated that of 150 tournaments that are held in more than 40 countries, the Puerto Vallarta Open is the favorite of international tennis players, since they have the opportunity to not only play in, but also enjoy, this beautiful city by the sea.
It should be remembered that the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) named the Puerto Vallarta Open as the best Challenger tournament in the world in 2018 and 2019, based on an evaluation carried out jointly with the participating players and based on technical execution, treatment of the players and the warmth and kindness of the people of Puerto Vallarta.
“It is the best Challenger tournament in the world, this happened in its first two editions, the third was different in the sense that we were still ending the pandemic and the ATP had different measures that in fact meant that no awards were given that year in order not to commit injustices in the conditions that existed in different countries. That is why we continue to hold the award, since there have not been other challengers with that merit after us,” said Romero.
In this fourth edition of the Vallarta Open, 32 tennis players from five continents will compete in singles, whose winner will receive 100 points from the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP), while in doubles 16 pairs will compete.
For now, they do not want to announce the players’ names, although Javier Romero highlighted that the Acapulco Open will take place the week before the Vallarta Open, so some players who participate in that higher-level tournament will come to the Vallarta match and the following week will be the Open of Indian Wells, which allows us to assume that players very well located in the ATP ranking will be in Jalisco.
In the qualifying tournament, the participation of the best Mexican rackets is expected, including new well-qualified players.
From Monday to Friday, the ticket in the general area will cost 180 pesos and VIP 250; the weekend 250 and 350, respectively, well below the costs of other tournaments. In addition, Puerto Mágico will allow free use of its parking spaces and will offer free collective transportation to Parota Park.
