Free PCR Tests Resume at CUCosta in Vallarta on Tuesday

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As of Tuesday, January 11, the COVID-19 laboratory at the University of Guadalajara Puerto Vallarta Campus, Centro Universitario de la Costa, will reopen and resume offering free PCR tests on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 to 10 am. The lab will attend up to 60 people per day by appointment only, which can be made via the Call Center at 333-540-3001.

Dr. Juan Agustin Torres Vazquez, Head of the CUCosta Department of Medical Sciences, said people interested in receiving the COVID-19 detection test will undergo an epidemiological questionnaire in order to assess whether or not they qualify for the free testing.

“People interested in taking this test, first have to dial the Call Center, which is open from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm., in order to avoid crowds in the COVID-19 laboratory, and to expedite attention to the general public,” he pointed out.

He also affirmed that after the winter holiday period, in this month of January, an increase in cases of viral respiratory diseases is expected, and likewise, a higher demand for testing.

The CUCosta lab has the capacity for 60 PCR tests per day on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 to 10 in the morning. Tests and diagnosis are free to the general public.

“Rapid tests are good, but PCR tests have a higher sensitivity to the SARS-COV-2 virus. Although the antigen tests that are available also have a high sensitivity.”

In this sense, Dr. Juan Torres recommended that the first symptoms of the disease be considered before making the appointment to undergo a PCR test at the University Center of the Coast, where tests are available from your vehicle (drive up) or on foot (walk up).

The University of Guadalajara Puerto Vallarta Campus, Centro Universitario de la Costa, is located off of the road to Ixtapa, just past the airport. See map.
