Immerse Yourself in Tradition at La Santa Cruz Fiestas Patronales

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Dive into the vibrant heart of Mexican tradition in Old Town Puerto Vallarta, where the 2024 Fiestas Patronales are in full swing on the street in front of the Parroquia de la Santa Cruz. Continuing through May 3rd, this annual celebration offers a delightful blend of religious traditions and joyful community revelry.

Erected in 1975, the Santa Cruz church is the third oldest parish in Puerto Vallarta. During the Fiestas Patronales, masses that are held daily at 11:00 am and the melodic chime of the bells at noon create a peaceful atmosphere, and the evening Rosary Masses at 7:00 pm offer a moment of quiet reflection.

Father Esteban Salazar González, the parish priest of Santa Cruz, extends a warm invitation to all Vallarta residents and visitors to partake in the festivities honoring the patron saint. In addition to religious services, the festival is a bustling carnival of Mexican treats, whimsical rides, and cultural spectacles. The church has set up a pavilion that sets the stage for live entertainment, and the city is graciously closing the streets to vehicular traffic from 5:30 in the afternoon onwards, transforming the street into a vibrant pedestrian haven.

Every evening, the street becomes a giant party zone filled with music, dance, and delicious food. You’ll enjoy captivating performances by local singers, folk groups, and traditional dance troupes. The laughter of children fills the air as they explore the exciting world of mechanical games and challenging contests. A variety of food booths serving local cuisine offer an array of delectable Mexican snacks perfect for a delightful picnic under the open sky.

On May 2, the night comes alive with a captivating program. At 10:00 pm, you’ll be swept away by the soulful melodies of a mariachi serenade. This will be followed by a mesmerizing dance performance by Beto Franco at 11:30 pm, the traditional Las Mañanitas serenade, and other festivities until dawn on May 3rd.

May 3rd holds special significance as it marks Masons’ Day, paying homage to the patron saint of bricklayers, La Santa Cruz. A timeless tradition unfolds as masons parade through the streets, bearing crosses elaborately adorned with flowers and delicate tissue paper. The crosses are carried into the church for a blessing, and are later placed on the buildings they are currently working on.

The grand finale promises an unforgettable evening. Join the entire parish community for a grand procession culminating at the church at 6:15 pm. Immerse yourself in the electrifying energy of La Noche Mexicana, a vibrant celebration featuring traditional food stalls, captivating music and dance performances, and an enthralling fireworks display featuring a spectacular castillo.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of Puerto Vallarta’s Fiestas Patronales! Head to La Parroquia de La Santa Cruz, located at the intersection of Calles Aguacate and Lazaro Cardenas in Colonia Emiliano Zapata, and celebrate a cherished tradition that exemplifies the enduring bond between the church and the community.
