Labyrinthe Returns with Two PV Choral Concerts

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Internationally acclaimed a cappella ensemble Labyrinthe will return to Puerto Vallarta in August for two special performances, offering local audiences a rare opportunity to experience professional choral music of exceptional quality. The concerts will also feature the special participation of Aquiles Morales, director of the Vallarta Symphony Orchestra.

The ensemble’s carefully selected program spans centuries of musical history and showcases works from Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Audiences will hear Renaissance masterpieces such as Jacob Arcadelt’s Il dolce e Bianco Cigno, a madrigal that contrasts the swan’s peaceful death with the ecstasy of love, and Thomas Tallis’s If Ye Love Me, celebrated for its graceful simplicity. Joaquín Rodrigo’s El Rey que Mucho Madruga adds the rich musical traditions of Sephardic culture to the program.

The concert also highlights the emotional depth and energy of African American spirituals. Selections include Moses Hogan’s stirring arrangements of The Battle of Jericho and Elijah Rock, Stacey Gibbs’ lively interpretation of Down by the Riverside, and Norman Luboff’s moving arrangement of All My Trials.

Contemporary choral music is represented by Morten Lauridsen’s lyrical Contre Qui, Rose and Joe Paquin’s Barter, while folk traditions from around the world bring additional variety. Audiences will enjoy the Filipino favorite Leron, Leron, Sinta (arranged by Saunder Choi), the Colombian folk song Juego a que me quemo – Chispa candela (arranged by Julián Gómez Giraldo), and Perry Gordon Fine’s Jamais seul.

Together, the repertoire blends elegance, rhythm, emotion, and remarkable vocal artistry into a performance designed to appeal to both dedicated music lovers and newcomers to choral music.

Labyrinthe will present just two performances in Puerto Vallarta. The first will take place on Friday, August 7, at 8:00 pm at Los Mangos Library, located at Av. Francisco Villa 1001. The second performance will be held on Saturday, August 8, at 9:00 pm at Iglesia de la Santa Cruz, located at Aguacate 233 in the Romantic Zone.

General admission tickets are $300, with discounted admission of $250 available for students and INAPAM members. Tickets may be purchased online at podercoral.com.

With only two performances scheduled, the concerts offer a unique opportunity to experience world-class choral music in Puerto Vallarta.
