Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – At just 13 years old, young sailor Lucas Alexander Jack, a proud member of the Junior Sailing program at the Vallarta Yacht Club, is back home after competing in the North American Optimist Championship, held in Halifax, Canada.
Sailing in the North Atlantic was a completely different challenge compared to the warm waters of Bahía de Banderas. Lucas faced freezing temperatures and shifting winds of up to 20 knots, showing the resilience and discipline that define high-performance athletes.
During the competition, he shared key lessons and experiences:
- In the final race, despite capsizing and losing positions, he stayed focused and determined to finish strong.
- He learned that nothing is guaranteed at sea, as conditions can change in seconds, while closely observing how top sailors manage fleets and starts.
- As an ambassador of Puerto Vallarta, he made friends from Brazil, Uruguay, Bermuda, and Canada, proudly sharing how unique sailing in Mexico is – where winter is almost unknown.
Upon his return, Lucas was welcomed with the warm embrace of his family and the recognition of his sailing community. His next goal is clear: qualify for the European Championship, continuing his intensive training to climb the international rankings.
“Work hard, train hard, and always believe in yourself, even when things get tough,” Lucas advised younger sailors at the Vallarta Yacht Club.
