Marina La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Retains Blue Flag Status

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico – Last week, for the eighth consecutive time, the Marina Riviera Nayarit met all of the requirements needed to retain their Blue Flag credentials for another year. The Blue Flag is a recognition by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that’s awarded to beaches and marinas that meet established criteria for quality, safety, and environmental education.

As in previous years, the 25 criteria of FEE México were met, which includes environmentally friendly operation, responsible disposal of organic and inorganic waste, water quality, safety and services. For this, it is necessary to have adequate personnel and equipment for visitor safety, signage and emergency plans, as well as access and inclusive spaces for people with disabilities.

The La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Marina first received certification in 2015, when it became the first marina to fly the Blue Flag in Mexico. Thanks to the support of the municipal and state governments of Bahía de Banderas and Nayarit, this commitment has been achieved year after year and in this way the certification is established for another year.

After receiving the blue flag, the harbor master of the Cruz de Huanacaxtle Marina, Rafael Alcántara, stated that this place is what it is thanks to the entire team, whom he recognized for their commitment and hard work on a daily basis, because this is how it was achieved.

“It takes a town to support an environmental program in our community. This is our boating, cruising and sailing community along with the marina staff helping to make a difference at Marina La Cruz,” he said.

This re-certification comes just in time for the current year’s Holy Week and Easter Week holiday period to reassure visitors and locals that the state is committed to caring for the environment.
