Mercado Libre Expands in Jalisco with MX1M Hub

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Mercado Libre is making big moves to strengthen its presence in western Mexico with a MX$911 million investment in El Salto, Jalisco. The e-commerce titan has opened a massive 100,000-square-meter fulfillment center, marking its fifth logistics site in the state and its second in El Salto alone.

The sprawling facility will create over 900 direct jobs and is built to sort and ship more than 3,600 packages every hour. Incoming items will be stored, processed, and categorized on-site before heading into the company’s regional delivery network.

By building up its presence in Jalisco, Mercado Libre aims to keep pace with rapidly rising online shopping demands across both the state and the surrounding Bajío region.

Company leaders emphasize that building out physical supply chains directly fuels economic opportunity. David Geisen, General Manager of Mercado Libre Mexico, noted that the new facility gives entrepreneurs and growing companies a launchpad to reach customers nationwide.

With this latest addition, the platform’s local network – which includes distribution hubs, service centers, and a cross-dock facility – now processes more than 1 million packages per week.

This local push aligns with a much broader national strategy. In May, Mercado Libre committed over US$4.6 billion toward technology, logistics, and financial services in Mexico for 2026.

The expansion brings the company’s footprint to 16 distribution centers and 124 overall logistics sites across the country, spanning nearly 1.7 million square meters. These investments follow a strong performance in 2025, when the ecosystem contributed over MX$106.4 billion to the nation’s economy.

Beyond physical warehouses, the company is actively working to help small Mexican businesses transition into the digital marketplace. Mercado Libre recently launched the second edition of CLIC: El Impulso de lo Nuestro, a free, permanent online training platform designed for local producers, micro-enterprises, and small businesses. Participants complete six self-paced practical modules covering digital sales strategies, inventory logistics, and product pricing.

The educational initiative expands on a successful 2025 pilot program that trained nearly 850 small businesses across several states, even awarding funding to standout merchants like Pan Q’ Ayuda, Pergal, and Habanerísima to upgrade their product presentation. Building on that foundation, the 2026 iteration launched an intensive six-week acceleration program in mid-August, selecting 30 to 40 local vendors specializing in regional food, beverage, and beauty goods for specialized mentorship.

Combining expanded delivery networks with merchant training creates a complete ecosystem that benefits local merchants, everyday consumers, and regional job markets alike. Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus pointed to the project as clear evidence that international companies remain eager to invest heavy capital and establish deep operational roots in the state.
