Mexico City is preparing to honor the timeless legacy of the King of Pop with an extraordinary spectacle that promises to transform the iconic Monumento a la Revolución into an energetic sea of music, motion, and nostalgia. On August 29th, in celebration of Michael Jackson’s birthday, hundreds of fans, dancers, and spectators will gather for a massive, free homage centered around the world-famous choreography of “Thriller.”
This grand tribute is spearheaded by Yo Sí Bailo Michael Jackson, a dedicated fan community that has spent years uniting local enthusiasts to keep the pop legend’s memory alive. Their vision for this anniversary is an open invitation to the public, welcoming seasoned performers who have perfected every step alongside beginners who are learning the steps for the first time.

To ensure everyone is stage-ready for the main event, the organizers have been hosting complimentary weekly rehearsal sessions every Sunday. With the final rehearsal taking place this Sunday at Banca Jackson, located across from Frontón México, before the main showcase on August 29th, the excitement is building fast. It is the absolute last chance for everyone to polish those legendary moves, sync up the choreography, and get all the final details in place for the big day. Participants are encouraged to bring plenty of enthusiasm, personal water bottles, and speakers to help amplify the iconic beats as they synchronize their movements.
The main dance gathering will take place at the Monumento a la Revolución on August 29, the date Michael Jackson would have celebrated his birthday. Participants are encouraged to recreate the unforgettable look from the “Thriller” music video by dressing as zombies, although fans can also arrive wearing costumes inspired by some of Jackson’s most memorable outfits, from red leather jackets to sequined gloves.
The family-friendly celebration is free and offers fans an opportunity to share their appreciation for one of the most influential performers in music history. With music, choreography and costumes taking over one of Mexico City’s most recognizable public spaces, the event promises a memorable tribute to Jackson and his enduring legacy.
