Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Naval personnel from the Twelfth Naval Zone recently teamed up with local officials in Puerto Vallarta for a major coastal cleanup at Punta Negra Beach. The joint effort, conducted alongside the Puerto Vallarta City Council, was part of the ongoing National Campaign for Cleaning and Conservation of Beaches and Coasts of Mexico.
Sixteen members of the Mexican Navy – including officers, enlisted personnel, and sailors – worked directly with city hall workers to scour the shoreline. Together, the team gathered roughly 185 kilograms of inorganic waste and debris that had accumulated along the waterfront.
The effort removed a variety of waste from the beach, including approximately 120 kilograms of glass, 25 kilograms of metal and 20 kilograms of plastic, along with 20 kilograms of driftwood. Following the cleanup, Puerto Vallarta City Hall personnel helped transport the collected materials to garbage containers for proper disposal.
Clearing debris from the coast plays a essential role in safeguarding both the local marine ecosystem and the region’s nautical tourism economy. Beyond removing physical trash, the Navy aims to build greater environmental awareness among residents and visitors alike.

Proper disposal helps reduce water pollution and protects marine wildlife while keeping coastal areas safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors.
