Mexico City is in for a major football weekend as the NFL returns to Estadio Azteca for a Sunday night matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers on November 22, 2026.
The game will be part of the NFL regular season, with kickoff scheduled for 7:15 pm Mexico City time. It marks another major international event for Estadio Azteca, which also hosted the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.
The matchup brings two well-known NFC teams to one of the world’s most recognizable soccer stadiums. Estadio Azteca officially holds 87,523 spectators, making it larger than every current NFL stadium. Located approximately 7,200 feet above sea level, the massive venue could provide a unique challenge for players accustomed to playing closer to sea level.
Mexico is no stranger to American football. The country has the NFL’s largest fan base outside the United States, and the sport has grown into Mexico’s second most popular sport.
High Demand for Tickets
That popularity was clear when ticket presales began Monday, September 14. A virtual queue reportedly surpassed 300,000 users as fans tried to secure seats for the 49ers-Vikings showdown.
The NFL has divided ticket sales into several categories, including general admission, VIP packages and hospitality experiences.
The least expensive general admission seats are in the Level 600 Endzone section, priced at 2,108 pesos. At the other end of the scale, Level 100 seats range from 9,176 pesos for Endzone seating to 11,656 pesos for Midfield.
VIP offerings provide fans with a more elaborate game-day experience. Packages include the Tunnel Club, Tunnel Club Limited View, Locker Club and Corner Club. The highest listed price for these experiences is 19,400 pesos, with the Tunnel Club package offering a field-front location, an exclusive lounge and all-inclusive food and beverages.
General ticket sales begin Tuesday, September 22, at 10:00 am Mexico City time. The NFL has set a limit of four tickets per purchase, with tickets available through Ticketmaster.
The Warning Takes the Stage
The football won’t be the only attraction at Estadio Azteca that night.
Mexican rock band The Warning has been selected to headline the halftime show. The Monterrey-based group will represent Mexico as part of the halftime performances planned for the NFL’s 2026 international games.
With two undefeated teams, a packed stadium and a Mexican band taking center stage at halftime, the November 22 game is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest sporting events in Mexico City.
