Overcharged by a Taxi Driver? Now There’s a Number to Call

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Due to numerous complaints of holiday “price jacking” by ‘traditional’ taxi drivers, the leaders of the local taxi union have developed a system that allows users to make complaints, get refunds and see that the drivers are punished.

The secretaries of the taxi drivers and concessionaires unions in Puerto Vallarta, Jaime Aguilar Mejía and Felipe Aréchiga agree that, unfortunately, overcharging is a problem every year during the holiday season.

They went on to say that some taxi drivers ignore the local users to give priority to tourists, mainly foreigners, who are charged in dollars. The excesses and mistreatments continue when local users do manage to get in a taxi and are then forced to pay inflated rates.

For these reasons they have made it possible to file complaints. If you have been overcharged or mistreated by a taxi driver you can now report it to the Labor Secretariat of the Union of Taxi Drivers in Puerto Vallarta via WhatsApp at 322-117-3460 or to the Regional Unit of State Services (Unirse) at 322-226-1805. You must provide the unit number to receive a refund.

Another option is to visit the Official Taxi PVR Facebook page, where you can download an app that enables you to order a taxi and see the established rates that are approved and set by the state authorities.
