Puerto Vallarta Acquires New Garbage Collection Trucks

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The problem of garbage collection is an issue that worries citizens in cities all over the world, and Puerto Vallarta is no exception. In recent years, the generation of garbage in this city has increased significantly, which has led to the need to increase the number of collection trucks and provide citizens with quality trash removal service.

The director of Municipal Public Services reported that 14 new garbage trucks, 10 of which are now parked outside the Augustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit (the municipal stadium on Francisco Medina Ascencio Blvd), and another 4 that are scheduled to arrive this week, will soon be put into service.

The Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, announced the acquisition of the trash collection trucks last week during the launch of his ‘Transforming Families’ program.

He said that the acquisition was in response to the demand of citizens, who have considered the current collection system inadequate due to the increase in the amount of garbage generated in Puerto Vallarta over the last three years, going from 300 to 500 tons per day. During holiday periods, this amount has increased even more, reaching more than 600 tons per day. For this reason, a greater number of collection trucks is necessary.

Profe Michel said that with the new fleet they will reactivate the notification system, whereby the trucks ring a bell as they travel through neighborhoods to collect trash, so that citizens can take out the garbage when the units pass and not before or after.

The acquisition of the new garbage collection trucks in Puerto Vallarta is good news for the citizens, since it will improve the cleaning service in the city and keep the streets free of garbage. However, it is important to note that this is not enough on its own. Collaboration between the government and the citizens is necessary to keep the streets clean.
