Puerto Vallarta is already getting ready for Mexico’s Independence Day, with naval personnel rehearsing for the traditional civic-military parade that will take place on the morning of September 16.
Although the official program for the 216th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence has not yet been announced, preparations are well underway. Personnel from the Twelfth Naval Zone, based in Puerto Vallarta, are continuing their training and rehearsals ahead of the annual commemorative event.
On Friday, September 4, members of the Mexican Navy offered a demonstration of their preparations at the Puerto Mágico facilities. The activity began at 8:00 am at Gate 10 of Pier 3, giving attendees an opportunity to see some of the formations, exercises and procedures that will be incorporated into the parade.
Among the demonstrations was an exercise involving the Navy’s canine teams. The specially trained dogs took part in a search-and-location exercise, showcasing their ability to assist personnel during different types of operations.
Personnel from several areas of the Secretariat of the Navy also demonstrated elements of their training, highlighting the coordination, discipline and preparation required for their participation in the parade.
The Navy has invited residents and visitors to attend the September 16 civic-military parade and take part in the Independence Day commemorations. Families and tourists are expected to gather along the parade route to watch the participating contingents.
Meanwhile, the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government, through its Coordination of Civic Events and Directorate of Public Education, has issued a call for public and private schools at the basic, upper-secondary and higher-education levels to participate. Civil and cultural organizations in the municipality have also been invited to join the traditional parade.
With rehearsals already underway, naval personnel are fine-tuning the details of their participation as Puerto Vallarta prepares for another September 16 celebration honoring Mexico’s history, values and national identity.
