Puerto Vallarta Sports Complex Renovation Moves Ahead

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Government of Jalisco has taken another step toward transforming sports infrastructure in Puerto Vallarta, with state officials recently inspecting the progress of the new High Performance Center at the Alfonso Díaz Santos Sports Unit, commonly known as La Bobadilla.

The supervisory visit was led by Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works David Zamora Bueno, who toured the complex alongside architecture, engineering and legal specialists from the agency. The team reviewed the condition of the property and evaluated the first phase of construction, which is scheduled to begin this year.

The project follows an announcement made by Governor Pablo Lemus in May, when he confirmed that construction of the High Performance Center was scheduled to begin in July with an initial investment of 80 million pesos. The complete renovation of the Alfonso Díaz Santos Sports Complex is expected to total approximately 200 million pesos.

Planned improvements include the rehabilitation of the Olympic-size swimming pool, bathrooms, changing rooms and the children’s aquatic play area, along with safer, more accessible walkways and entrances. These upgrades will enhance the experience for the thousands of children, families, recreational users and competitive athletes who rely on La Bobadilla each year, providing quality facilities that support both everyday community recreation and high-performance training.

La Bobadilla Sports Unit is already one of the region’s leading sports complexes. It features an athletics track, soccer field, baseball field with bleachers, an Olympic-size swimming pool and outdoor exercise areas. Every day, children, teenagers, adults and competitive athletes use the facility for training, recreation and physical activity.

State officials said the project forms part of Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro’s broader strategy, coordinated through the General Strategic Coordination of Social Development, to strengthen sports infrastructure throughout Jalisco. Beyond supporting elite athletes, the investment is expected to encourage healthier lifestyles by enhancing one of Puerto Vallarta’s most important community spaces for recreation, training and family activities.

Once completed, the renewed High Performance Center will provide a first-class environment for athletic development while serving thousands of residents who use La Bobadilla for sports, exercise and recreation.
