Successful Summer Vacation Season in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – National and international tourists chose Puerto Vallarta as one of their favorite destinations during the summer vacation season. ‘The Friendliest City in the World’ welcomed more than 495,000 visitors, and enjoyed an average hotel occupancy of 62.8%, which represents an increase of 38.8% compared to 2020.

Likewise, the tourism sector of the Green Pearl of the Mexican Pacific obtained an economic benefit of 2,290,629,370 pesos, according to figures from the state government of Jalisco.

During the month of July, which marked the beginning of the summer season, Puerto Vallarta registered a hotel occupancy of 72.62%, a very positive result that was close to the numbers obtained during 2019 when it was possible to capture 77.73%.

In the month of August, Puerto Vallarta registered a hotel occupancy of 55.14%, very close to the 2019 figures, in which this important tourist destination obtained 65.84% occupancy. We must remember that as part of the Covid-19 mitigation measures issued by the state and municipal Health Boards, the limit allowed in hotels is 80%.

For the month of September, there are high expectations of exceeding 45% in hotel occupancy, approaching the 50% that was obtained in 2019. Currently the reservation books show that the destination has confirmed reservations between 34% and 40% during the week, and between 45% and 52% on weekends. It is important to remember that the purchase window at the national level is 7 days, so a considerable increase is expected for the second half of September and the first half of October.

For the national holidays, Puerto Vallarta was among the top 3 of the leading destinations in the search for tourist services, according to an analysis carried out by the Despegar platform, which reaffirms all Mexicans’ desire to travel.

During the summer season, The World’s Friendliest City was a leader in tourist recovery and broke a record in visitor arrivals, since in addition to the positive records in hotel occupancy, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport received more than 198,900 passengers from domestic markets during this period, surpassing the pre-pandemic figures of 197,000 in 2019.

At the international level, the increase in arrivals was more outstanding, reaching 206,550 passengers this summer compared to 175,350 in 2019.

This represents an 8% increase in the arrival of national and international passengers this year, compared to 2019, data that proves the steadfast recovery of tourism in Puerto Vallarta with more positive results than before the start of the pandemic.

Nationally, Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and Tijuana were the cities that brought with the highest number of flights to Puerto Vallarta during the summer season, while internationally, they were mainly from the United States, with the cities of Los Angeles, Dallas, Denver and Houston dominating.

The airports of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), among which the Puerto Vallarta air terminal is integrated, is the first group in the world to receive the Airport Sanitary Accreditation (AHA) certification by the International Council of Airports of Latin America and the Caribbean, a recognition for good compliance with sanitary protocols under international standards.

For their part, cruise ships continue to arrive in Puerto Vallarta successfully, with weekly visits by the Carnival Panorama scheduled for the remainder of 2021. Since its return to the destination on August 24, passengers have safely enjoyed the great benefits that this port city has to offer.

The Carnival Panorama currently operates at 70% of its capacity and with strict sanitary protocols, in which travelers and crew are 95% inoculated with the complete vaccination scheme and 100% with negative Covid-19 tests prior to boarding.

The Disney Wonder, of the Disney Cruise Line company, is expected in the month of November, which will depart from San Diego on a 14-day trip through the Panama Canal to Galveston, Texas, with stops at Mexican Pacific beaches, including Puerto Vallarta.

This important tourist destination is ready to receive national and international tourism in the coming months, reinforcing biosecurity measures for all visitors, with the firm objective that they have unforgettable experiences and with the confidence that during their stay all tourist services providers will join forces to provide a safe and pleasant trip.
