Uber Mujeres Rides Option Launches in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Uber has expanded a feature designed to give women more choice over who they ride with to Puerto Vallarta, adding the city to its growing list of Mexican destinations offering Uber Mujeres.

The service, which has been available in Guadalajara since May, lets passengers using the Uber app request rides with female drivers. In Puerto Vallarta, the option became available this week for on-demand trips between 6 am and 11 pm.

Uber Mujeres is part of a broader effort by the company to give women more control over their transportation experience. The feature follows Ellas, introduced in 2020, which allows female drivers to choose to accept trips from female passengers.

More choices for women using Uber

The Puerto Vallarta addition comes as Uber expands Uber Mujeres from its initial rollout in five Mexican cities to a total of 20. The company says the option has been frequently requested by female users.

Passengers can use the feature in several ways. The first time Uber Mujeres is selected, users will be asked to confirm their gender before gaining access to the available settings.

One option allows passengers to set a preference for female drivers on all their trips. The setting can be found under Account > Settings > Trip Preferences. While Uber will try to match the passenger with a woman chauffeur, the request may be offered to other drivers if waiting times become too long.

Passengers who need a ride at a specific time can also use Uber Reserve to schedule a trip in advance and select the Uber Women option. According to Uber, reservations can be made up to 30 minutes ahead of the planned trip.

For immediate travel, users can select Uber Women from the available ride options after entering their destination. If no nearby female driver is available or the estimated wait is too long, the app will give passengers the choice of waiting longer or accepting a ride with a male driver.

The service is available daily from 6 am to 11 pm, giving women another option when arranging transportation around Puerto Vallarta.

Cecilia Román, Communications Manager for Uber in Mexico, said the company sees technology, safety tools and specialized teams as important parts of providing women with greater control over how they use the platform.

For women who prefer to travel with female drivers, Uber Mujeres adds another choice to the transportation options already available through the app, without requiring them to change how they normally request a ride.
