Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Puerto Vallarta International Airport has had a great start to the year. In the first quarter of 2023 the number of passengers exceeded two million, leading the terminals operated in Mexico by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) in comparative increase of almost 30 percent, and establishing another historical record.
According to preliminary data from GAP, in the month of March 2023, the 12 GAP Mexican airports registered an increase in total passenger traffic of 14.2%, compared to the same month in 2022. The airports of Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana presented growth of 19.1%, 15.4%, 14.6%, 8.0%, respectively, compared to March 2022.
The Vallarta airport welcomed 716,100 passengers, while in the same month of 2022 there were 624,800, a difference compared to last year of 14.6%. In this way, it added 2,017,800 passengers in the first quarter of the year, 29.4 percent more than the same period last year.
In March, 230,000 passengers arrived on domestic flights to Puerto Vallarta, 19.9 percent more than the same month in 2022, when there were 191,900. After three months there were 639,700 passengers, 28.2% more than last year.
In addition, 486,100 passengers were captured on international flights, 12.3 percent more than in March 2022, when there were 433,000. In the first quarter, the PVR airport received 1,378,100 international passengers, 29.9 percent more than the previous year. With this it continues to be the GAP Mexican airport with the highest traffic numbers at the start of the year, surpassing Los Cabos and Guadalajara.
The volume of seats offered during March 2023 increased 17.3%, compared to March 2022. However, the load factor went from 80.6% in March 2022 to 79.7% in March 2023.
No new routes were opened in GAP’s Mexican terminals in March, but the situation is expected to change in April.
