Vallarta Airport Exceeds 3 Million Passengers, But Growth Slows

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Although more than 3 million passengers passed through the Puerto Vallarta International Airport during the first five months of the year, exceeding the total that it accumulated in the same period of 2022 by almost 20%, in the month of May there was a percentage growth of barely 1%.

According to preliminary data from the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), in the month of May 2023, its 12 Mexican airports registered an increase in total passenger traffic of 10.1%, compared to the same month in 2022. The airports of Guadalajara, Tijuana, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta presented growth of 16.1%, 7.3%, 5.2% and 1.0% respectively, compared to May 2022.

The Vallarta airport welcomed 494,100 passengers in May, while in the same month of 2022 there were 489,000, a difference compared to last year of only 1%. After the first five months of 2023, the number of passengers had already reached 3,154,800, 20.4% more than the same period of the previous year.

In May, 237,900 passengers arrived on domestic flights to Puerto Vallarta, 2.1% more than the same month of 2022, when there were 233,100. After five months there were 1,137,600 national passengers, 18.5% more than last year.

In addition, 256,200 passengers came in on international flights, 0.1% more than in May 2022, when there were 255,900. In the first five months of 2023, the PVR airport welcomed 2,017,100 international passengers, 21.4% more than the year before.

The volume of seats offered by the GAP during May 2023 increased 15.6%, compared to May 2022, but the load factor went from 82.1% in May 2022 to 78.8% in May 2023.
