Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – This year marks a momentous milestone for Puerto Vallarta’s Xiutla Municipal Folkloric Dance Group. In 2024 they’re celebrating 30 years of cultural ambassadorship, and reflecting on its journey with pride and dedication.
Born from the vision of Professor Enrique Barrios y Limón in 1994, Xiutla (meaning “place where grass grows” in Nahuatl) has blossomed into a Puerto Vallarta institution. Thanks to the support of the municipal government, he managed to instill a love of Mexican folklore to children and young people, forming a solid project that has taken root in the heart of Puerto Vallarta.
According to Prof. Enrique Barrios Limón, the founder/leader/choreographer of the youth folkloric ballet, “this anniversary is something special because it was an arduous journey at times but we made it through the 30 years with success and pride for our accomplishments.”
Throughout its history, Xiutla has represented Puerto Vallarta with great success in more than 40 tours and 3,700 performances in various venues in Latin America, the United States, Europe and Asia. If anything characterizes the Ballet Folklorico Xiutla it is its extensive repertoire, covering all regions of Mexico.
The Xiutla will celebrate its anniversary with a special presentation on Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 pm at Teatro Vallarta.
