Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Nine more cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Jalisco, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state, to date, to 45. Of these, 41 are patients with symptoms – most of them mild – and the number of asymptomatic carriers remains at four.
The Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) reports that the majority of confirmed cases are registered in the municipalities of Zapopan and Guadalajara; but the first case outside the metropolitan area was reported on Saturday in the municipality of Cuautla.
Of the total reported, forty people have had an outpatient follow-up in their homes. Meanwhile, five patients have been hospitalized, both in public and private institutions, of which three have already been discharged for improvement, and two remain hospitalized in serious condition.
The highest proportion of infections occurs in males (68 percent). The age group that concentrates the most infected people is between 50 and 55 years old.
It should be noted that at the moment 107 cases have tested negative and been totally ruled out, and there are 120 patients under study, waiting for diagnosis to confirm or rule out infection. Likewise, two suspicious deaths, possibly associated with COVID-19, are in the process of being analyzed. In both cases, the epidemiological investigation will continue until cause of death is determined.
The State Epidemiological Surveillance System continues the active search for suspected cases and their contacts. Since March 2, these efforts have been supported by the COVID-19 hotline that attends to citizen reports. The SSJ Epidemiology Unit, for its part, monitors 360 people every day, including those with the disease, asymptomatic carriers, and contacts (people they live with) of both groups.
Vail Travelers
The SSJ continues the search for all the people from Jalisco who traveled to Vail, Colorado (USA). So far, through epidemiological research, 120 travelers have been contacted through various channels, of which 43% reported having some symptoms of respiratory disease.
Of the total number coronavirus cases reported in Jalisco, 15 of the infected and one asymptomatic carrier of the virus were among those who traveled to Vail. The state agency continues to work in collaboration with the company that organized the trip and reiterates the need for all those who traveled with them to maintain home isolation and to call the COVID-19 hotline at 333-823-3220.
Business Training Event
The SSJ has contacted 57 of the 60 participants in a business training course whose foreign speaker tested positive for COVID-19. From this group, there are four confirmed cases and one asymptomatic carrier. Epidemiological investigation continues to detect all attendees and their contacts.
