Tropical Storm Orlene Approaches Western Coast of Mexico

As of 4:00 pm on Friday, September 30, Tropical Storm Orlene was displaying maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h and was located 445 km south-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. It is expected to strengthen to a category 1 hurricane early Saturday morning as it approaches the Mexican coast and continues to move northwestward.

AMLO Announces a “Considerable” Minimum Wage Increase in 2023

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently announced that there will be a "considerable" increase in the minimum wage for 2023. Inflationary levels have accelerated talks between businessmen, unions and the government, and though it has not yet been determined how much it will rise, Mexico's minimum wage will go up on January 1.

Volaris Launches 6 New Routes From Mexico City’s New Airport

Since opening up north of Mexico City on March 21, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) has slowly gained new routes and operators. The Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris recently launched operations on six new domestic routes from NLU to Puerto Escondido, Los Cabos, La Paz, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta.

Jaliscienses Horsewomen Found Charrería School for Girls

The 'escaramuzas' – or charro women from Jalisco – are forging boldly ahead by founding a school to train young and teenage girls in horsemanship and “charreria,” Mexico's national sport that is usually dominated by men. The school officially opened its doors in San Martin de Hidalgo, Jalisco, in early September.
