Puerto Vallarta will celebrate the traditions, flavors and artistic expressions of Indigenous communities during Celebrando Nuestras Raíces (Celebrating Our Roots), a weeklong cultural gathering taking place September 14-20 at the Cuale Cultural Center Esplanade.
Organized by the Pluricultural and Multiethnic Liaison Office in coordination with participating Indigenous communities, the event will offer free activities each day from 2:00 to 10:00 pm. The program is designed to recognize and preserve cultural heritage while giving residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about the traditions of different communities.
The gathering will provide families and visitors with a closer look at traditional knowledge, cuisine and artistic practices that have been passed down through generations.
Traditional flavors take center stage
Food lovers will find plenty to explore throughout the seven-day gathering. Culinary artisans from Zapotec, Triqui, and Purépecha backgrounds, as well as cooks representing Oaxaca and Guerrero, are preparing an array of regional specialties. Visitors can sample wood-fired dishes, handmade tamales, fresh bread, tacos, rich stews, traditional sweets, and specialty drinks crafted using time-honored techniques.
Workshops and traditional performances
Cultural workshops will be held each evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, with artisans and community representatives sharing traditional techniques, knowledge and practices with attendees.
The program will also feature traditional dances, folkloric groups and guest artists throughout the week. Through music, dance and other artistic expressions, participants will showcase elements of their cultural heritage.
According to organizers, Celebrando Nuestras Raíces is intended to create a space for cultural exchange, respect and appreciation of Mexico’s diversity. By bringing communities together and sharing their traditions with the public, the event also aims to help ensure that this knowledge continues to reach future generations.
Families, Puerto Vallarta residents, visitors and the general public are invited to to stop by, join the festivities, and experience these unique cultures firsthand. Admission is free, and all activities will take place at the Cuale Cultural Center Esplanade from September 14 through 20, between 2:00 and 10:00 pm.
