Immerse Yourself in Raicilla: Exhibition Finale with Tasting Event

Update: Sadly, this event has been cancelled.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Oficina de Proyectos Culturales (OPC) bids farewell to Ana Topoleanu’s captivating exhibition, Los de la Otra Costa: El Mundo de Raicilla, with a celebratory tasting event on Thursday, September 19th at 6:30 pm. This immersive finale offers the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the rich cultural heritage and unique flavors of Raicilla.

The exhibition, which showcases historical texts and captivating photographs, sheds light on the profound impact this artisanal agave spirit has had on Mexican culture. More than just a drink, Raicilla embodies a centuries-old tradition and an enduring connection to the land. This “rye-see-ya,” as it’s pronounced, is meticulously crafted using a blend of wild agave varieties. Harvested by hand at their peak, the agaves are then cooked in earthen ovens, fermented naturally, and distilled in small, family-run operations.

The true essence of Raicilla lies in its artisanal production methods, meticulously passed down through generations of maestros raicilleros, or Raicilla masters. These experts utilize wild agaves, each contributing unique flavor profiles to the final spirit. After cooking, the agave is mashed and fermented, often relying on natural yeasts for a complex profile. Distillation occurs in unassuming copper stills, capturing the agave’s essence in its purest form. Often distilled only once, Raicilla retains the earthy and rustic character of its Jalisco and Nayarit origins.

The farewell event promises an unforgettable experience. Guests can savor four distinct Raicillas, alongside an engaging talk delving into the history and production process of this celebrated local spirit. Light appetizers and lively conversation will complete the evening. Tickets are priced at $380 pesos per person, and reservations can be secured by emailing opcvallarta(at)gmail.com,

The OPC extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who joined them on this journey to explore the art, culture, and rich flavors of the Raicilla world.
