Int’l Arrivals at Puerto Vallarta Airport Up 9.6% in Q1 2024

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Foreign tourism to Puerto Vallarta via air travel saw an uptick of nearly 10% in the first four months of 2024, as per data from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP). In this period, the city welcomed 1,930,000 international passengers, primarily from the United States, Canada, and Europe, representing a 9.6% increase from the same period in 2023.

In 2023, Puerto Vallarta attracted a total of 4,460,000 tourists, with approximately 3,380,000 arriving by air, 543,000 via cruise ships, and the same number by land.

The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that in the first quarter of 2024, 30,136,000 passengers were transported nationwide, of which 14,112,000 were on domestic flights and 16,023,000 were on international flights.

Domestic flights showed an 18.5% increase in passengers compared to the same period in 2019, while international flights saw a 10.3% rise from the first quarter of 2023 and a 22% surge from January to March 2019.

Viva Aerobus and Volaris were the leading carriers for domestic flights during January-March 2024, collectively transporting 9,956,000 passengers, marking a 69% increase from the same period in 2019. The top five airlines by passenger arrivals on domestic flights for the first quarter of 2024 were Viva Aerobus, Volaris, Aeroméxico, Aeroméxico Connect, and Magnicharters.
