Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Los Mangos Library and Cultural Center is inviting the community to gather in its gardens this Thursday, April 23, for an afternoon dedicated to the love of reading.
In celebration of International Book Day, the library will host a book swap and sale from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. This event offers a unique opportunity for residents to refresh their personal libraries while enjoying the natural beauty of Los Mangos’ garden.
International Book Day carries a deep historical significance, established by UNESCO in 1995 to honor the legacy of world-renowned authors. The date coincides with the anniversary of the deaths of literary giants William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. By hosting this exchange on such a symbolic day, the library aims to foster a stronger reading culture and encourage the circulation of literature throughout the city.
Participants are encouraged to bring books they have already finished and trade them for new titles, ensuring that stories continue to be shared rather than sitting forgotten on a shelf. By giving books a second life, the event helps foster a culture of sharing knowledge and discovering new stories.
The event is designed to be a relaxed social gathering where friends can meet to discuss their favorite genres. In addition to the free exchange, local bookstores will participate by offering new titles for purchase, providing a wide variety of options for every type of reader.
In addition to swapping and/or buying books, attendees can enjoy a welcoming community atmosphere designed to spark conversations among readers of all ages. Friends, families, and avid readers are encouraged to attend together and take part in the celebration of literature.
This initiative reflects the mission of Biblioteca Los Mangos to make reading accessible and engaging for the entire community. By turning its garden into a welcoming space for book lovers, the center continues to support cultural exchange and lifelong learning.
Biblioteca Los Mangos is located at Av. Francisco Villa 1001, Colonia Versalles, Puerto Vallarta. For more information about the event, contact the library directly at 322-310-6464.
