New Water Fountain at Elementary School in Ixtapa

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Students at Solidaridad Elementary School in Ixtapa now have direct access to clean, safe drinking water right on campus thanks to a newly installed hydration station by SEAPAL Vallarta.

Mayor Luis Munguía joined SEAPAL Director Carlos Ruiz Hernández at the school this week to inaugurate the drinking fountain, which serves approximately 820 children split between the morning and afternoon shifts.

The project aims to keep kids hydrated while instilling healthy daily routines early on. During the opening ceremony, Mayor Munguía noted that supporting local children goes hand in hand with upgrading the spaces where they learn and play. He reiterated the municipal government’s goal to keep improving school facilities alongside broader efforts to build more neighborhood parks and green spaces across Puerto Vallarta.

Ruiz explained that the newly installed system delivers high-quality water, making it easier for students to skip sugary drinks and stay hydrated throughout the school day. He also encouraged the children to become “Guardians of Water,” taking the lessons they learn about conservation back home to their families and neighbors. Building a lasting water culture, he pointed out, starts with everyday actions that young people can easily model for their communities.

School administrators warmly welcomed the initiative. Adriana Guadalupe González, principal of the afternoon shift at Francisco Medina Ascencio Elementary, expressed her gratitude for the city’s backing, noting how much the new station improves day-to-day life for students across both shifts. Morning principal Noemí Flores Guzmán added that thoughtful public projects truly transform lives, giving hundreds of children reliable access to clean water while boosting their overall health and well-being.

This latest addition highlights an ongoing effort to ensure that local schools are equipped with essential utilities, giving students the resources they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. With clean water now just a few steps away, the children in Ixtapa can stay healthy, refreshed, and focused on their education.
