New York City May Soon be Vallarta’s Newest Sister City

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta’s municipal government recently announced progress in finalizing a Sister City twinning agreement with New York City. As part of the initiative, Puerto Vallarta will be advertised on Time Square screens during a parade on May 5th.

“Discussions with New York are well underway,” said interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil. “On May 5th, they will have a Cinco de Mayo parade and are looking to showcase Puerto Vallarta on Time Square screens. We’re also working to have Vallarta-themed letters displayed that day, similar to the ones here where people take pictures.”

These developments follow a visit by Miguel Herevia from the New York consulate a few weeks ago. The visit included discussions about celebrating the Battle of Puebla, a significant date for the Mexican community in the United States. A meeting between Puerto Vallarta officials, business representatives, and travel agencies is scheduled for May 7th at the New York consulate.

The Director of Municipal Tourism, Christian Preciado Cázares, revealed similar invitations from McAllen, Texas, and Florida, which are interested in exporting Mexican products. “They’re interested in having us promote tourism and the local economy,” Cázares explained. “They want businesses to sell products in their stores and supermarkets, including coffee, dried fruits, and raicilla. We’re looking into labeling regulations to facilitate these exports.”

PV’s interim mayor also announced plans to build a Sister Cities park, which will feature elements from each city that has a tie with Puerto Vallarta.
