Puerto Vallarta is set to become even more accessible to Canadian travelers as Porter Airlines prepares for a major expansion during the 2026-27 winter season. Following the successful launch of its Ontario routes late last year, the airline is doubling down on its commitment to Banderas Bay by introducing new direct connections and increasing flight frequencies.
Starting November 3, Porter will debut a new service from Edmonton, offering three weekly flights directly into Puerto Vallarta. In addition to this new Western Canada connection, the airline is upgrading its existing Toronto service. What was previously a five-day-a-week schedule will transition into a daily operation, ensuring a consistent flow of visitors from Canada’s largest hub. Together, these changes bring more than 2,600 additional seats to the city every month.
The airline continues to utilize the Embraer E195-E2 for these routes, a modern 132-passenger aircraft designed for efficiency and passenger comfort. This fleet consistency allows Porter to scale its operations across Mexico and the Caribbean effectively, with the company projecting more than 40 routes to these regions for the upcoming season.
This growth is part of a larger trend for the carrier, which has scheduled nearly 5,000 flights to sunny destinations for the winter – a 150 percent increase over the previous year. Andrew Pierce, vice president of Porter Airlines’ network planning, shared that the company is eager to build on the success of its first year flying to southern markets by providing more reliable and frequent options for vacationers.
By strengthening the link between major Canadian cities and the Mexican Pacific, Porter Airlines is playing a key role in the continued popularity of Puerto Vallarta. With daily flights from Toronto and the new arrival of passengers from Edmonton, the upcoming winter season promises to be a busy and productive time for the local tourism industry.
