Puerto Vallarta’s artistic community is preparing for an international showcase as a group of local painters and visual artists head to London, England, to participate in 100 Fridas for Frida, a collective exhibition honoring the life, work and legacy of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The local participation is being coordinated by Isela Mariscal of the Real P Network. Six Vallarta artists – Caty Huet, Dinorah Gómez, Javier Niño, Gonzalo Espinosa, Claudia Ríos and Isela Mariscal – will travel to the United Kingdom to attend the exhibition. Rosana Chávez, Mónica Gurrola and Gloria Benavides will also be represented through works they are sending for the event.
The second edition of 100 Fridas for Frida will open September 3, 2026, at Blank Canvas gallery in London’s Fulham district. The exhibition brings together the work of 100 creators from different places, each offering a personal interpretation of Kahlo through different perspectives, techniques and artistic approaches.
The exhibition looks beyond the commercial image that has grown around Kahlo and focuses instead on the woman and artist behind the icon. The participating works explore her life, contradictions, identity and the cultural legacy she left in Mexico and around the world.
The project first premiered in Paris, France, as part of the commemoration of the 115th anniversary of Kahlo’s birth. Since then, it has been presented at cultural venues in different locations, including Mexico City. Its arrival in London marks another step in the project’s effort to encourage an international conversation about one of Mexico’s best-known artists.
For the Puerto Vallarta participants, the exhibition offers more than an opportunity to display individual works. Their presence places local artistic talent in an international setting and highlights the depth and diversity of the city’s creative community.
Mariscal and the participating artists emphasized that bringing Puerto Vallarta artwork to another country also means sharing a piece of the city’s identity, creativity and artistic perspective with a wider audience.
During a press conference ahead of their departure, the artists recognized the support of Laurel Carrillo, Councilor for Culture; Ricardo Josué Martínez Andrade, director of the Vallarta Cultural Institute; and the Puerto Vallarta City Council.
Their support, the artists said, reflects a growing interest in strengthening the local arts community and creating opportunities for Vallarta artists to participate in significant cultural projects beyond Mexico.
With the London exhibition approaching, the group is preparing to represent Puerto Vallarta alongside artists from around the world, adding a local perspective to an international tribute to Frida Kahlo.
