Puerto Vallarta Sports Complex Undergoing Major Renovation

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The La Bobadilla Olympic swimming pool at Puerto Vallarta’s Alfonso Díaz Santos Sports Complex is undergoing a major renovation expected to take about two years and cost an estimated 200 million pesos. The project is the first phase of a broader effort to modernize the aging sports facilities and create better conditions for athletes and the community.

Work began in September, with the Jalisco state government participating through its Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP). William Arredondo Camacho, head of the Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE), outlined the project and the condition of the existing facilities.

The swimming pool will receive a comprehensive overhaul, including structural reinforcement and an updated hydraulic system. The stands will also be rehabilitated, while the bathrooms and changing rooms will be renovated to improve safety, cleanliness and functionality. Plans also call for installing a roof and making additional improvements to bring the facility in line with modern training needs.

The extensive work is necessary because years of use have taken a toll on the complex. Arredondo Camacho explained that although maintenance has been carried out, including gutter repairs and roof sealing, water leaks remain a problem. The condition of the buildings and supporting infrastructure now requires a more thorough solution.

Beyond the swimming pool itself, the project is intended to improve the overall condition of the Alfonso Díaz Santos Sports Complex. The goal is to provide more suitable spaces for organized sports, athletic training and recreational activities while addressing problems that have limited the usefulness of the existing facilities.

The Olympic pool renovation represents the first step in a larger plan to transform the complex into a modern sports training center. Once the work is completed, the improved infrastructure is expected to offer better conditions for aquatic sports and other physical activities, serving both competitive athletes and residents who use public sports facilities.

With an estimated completion period of approximately two years, the project represents a significant investment in Puerto Vallarta’s sports infrastructure. Its success will depend on completing the planned improvements and ensuring the facilities can be properly maintained for years to come.
