Puerto Vallarta Tourism Thrives with Improved Highway Access

With summer vacations underway, Puerto Vallarta is seeing a surge in visitors arriving by car. The newly opened Guadalajara – Puerto Vallarta highway is fueling this influx, drawing more tourists from Guadalajara and nearby regions, according to Luis Villaseñor, director of the Tourism Trust.

The highway cuts travel time between the two cities to just three hours, enticing travelers from not only Guadalajara but also the Bajío region, Michoacán, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, and central Mexico. This improved road connectivity is making Puerto Vallarta a more accessible and attractive destination.

The improved connectivity extends beyond Puerto Vallarta itself. The highway has become a catalyst for “circuit tourism” within Jalisco. With shorter travel times, tourists can explore multiple destinations in a single trip.

Luis Villaseñor, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, enthusiastically highlights this trend: “The enhanced land connection makes it incredibly convenient to admire Guadalajara’s colonial architecture, delve into the world of tequila production at a distillery, and conclude the journey by relaxing on our stunning coastline – all in one trip!”

In addition to the new highway, Jalisco offers two free routes connecting Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. One is a federal highway, and the other is a scenic state route through the Sierra Madre Occidental, known for its breathtaking views.

This exceptional network of well-maintained roads positions Puerto Vallarta for continued tourism growth throughout this summer and beyond.
