PV Garden Club Presentation Features Mexican Folk Art

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On February 15, the Puerto Vallarta Garden Club will have a membership presentation featuring Kevin Simpson, an authority on Mexican Folk Art, who will speak about the natural dyes used in traditional Zapotec weaving.

Join us online, or in person at Incanto, for our membership presentation on February 15 at 3:30 CST (Please be fully vaccinated and wear your mask at Incanto).

Natural Dyes Used in Traditional Zapotec Weaving

We are delighted to have Kevin Simpson returning as a presenter. Kevin graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1994 with an honors degree in political science. In 1995 he moved to Puerto Vallarta where he befriended a Huichol elder and ended up opening a small gallery called Peyote People.

After traveling around Mexico for several years, Kevin together with his wife Beatriz, opened the amazing Gallery Colectika that specializes in ancestral contemporary Mexican Folk Art.

He has published several articles on Mexican native art for the magazine First American Art, including one on natural dyes used in traditional Zapotec weaving.

How to Watch the Video Stream

The team at Incanto is once again helping us stream this meeting from the piano bar area. You can join from anywhere… just go to the Incanto Facebook page and choose “Like and Follow”. When the stream starts (think Garden Club TV) you’ll see a notice to click and join. At that point you will be able to see the presentation. Facebook is the only format available to us.

Gala Tickets and Membership Appeal

We still have a few tickets remaining for our spectacular Black, White and Bling Gala at Oscar’s on March 15 at 6:00 pm… a dress-up for fun cocktail party and silent auction, followed by dinner and dancing under the stars.
